There is a sweet story about why this island is called Deer Island. A long time ago a man brought two deer to this island. A male and female. But soon after someone came and killed the male leaving the female all alone. No other deer on this island. She would come out of the trees to greet people who came to the island. There are 3 islands. So when tourists asked a water taxi to take them to the they would say the island with the friendly deer or Deer Island. It stuck. There are no more deer on the island. Just a story of lost love and longing.
