I told a close relative about the deep meditative space shibari puts me in and they turned on me saying I have demons, I am twisted and perverted, they can’t hold conversation with me because my mouth is full of self deceit. This is someone deeply close to me and those words wounded and tore at my soul. Another friend listened as I shared that wound, and he started humming this song Son Lux, Plans We Made, “some will walk, some will run but in the end we’ll loose everyone somehow. Yet I’m afraid to let you go.” We change, thats what humans and the entire universe does. If you arent changing, are you growing? As we change we may loose the way we relate to loved ones, we may have to let them go. Most departures we won’t feel, but a precious few we’ll be afraid to let go. My friend stopped his humming, hugged me and left. I went straight to my bedroom, turned on the lights and tiredly, for it was 2am, danced out the emotion. The mirror signified letting go of the reflections people see you as. I’m not sharing this for affirmation or comfort. My purpose is to let you in on what my inner processes look like and what embodying an emotion looks like for me. Big shoutout to two maybe-humans but probably beyond humans @aly_exhale who’s dance with mirrors inspired this set up and @cyberpunkgirl who incorporates neon rope lights like this one in the kinkiest aesthetic I’ve ever seen.
